Market essentials
Useful context before a discussion.
These concise guides explain general concepts. The applicable rules and the terms of a specific agreement determine the obligations in an actual engagement.
How do fixed-volume and production-linked deliveries differ?
A fixed-volume structure defines an agreed quantity or profile for delivery. A production-linked structure follows an agreed definition of actual generation. The treatment of deviations, outages and settlement must be specified in the contract; the label alone does not determine who bears every risk.
What should be compared alongside a price?
Review the delivery profile, price reference, imbalance allocation, settlement frequency, payment calendar, credit terms and correction rules. A comparison becomes meaningful when it considers the same scope and assumptions.
What is the role of an EIC?
An Energy Identification Code identifies an entity or object within relevant energy-market processes. An EIC alone does not establish access to every market or authorisation to perform every activity.
What is the difference between a trader and a PRE?
Electricity trading and balancing responsibility are distinct roles. The right to trade does not by itself establish an active PRE registration or the scope of a balancing service. Each role has its own applicable prerequisites and responsibilities.
Why do provisional and final figures differ?
Measurement corrections, settlement versions and timing can change the information available. Reports should identify the reference period and version, and explain material changes rather than presenting every figure as final.
Which information helps a first producer discussion?
Technology, installed capacity, location, project stage, expected output, commissioning date where relevant and any existing delivery obligations. Detailed documents can follow through the agreed commercial process.
